This neighbourhood has an interesting story.
Rome hosted the Olympics in the summer of 1960.
The Villaggio Olimpico is one of the wolrd’s first purpose-built athletes’village.
The architects were Luigi Moretti and Alberto Libera; it was designed to house 8,000 athletes. It turned into a neighbourhood for state employees when the olympic games were over.
Nearby, you can see the wonderful Palazzetto dello Sport, by the great Italian engineer and architect Pier Luigi Nervi.
